John R. (Grizz) Deal has over twenty-five years of experience in startups, fast growing ventures, and acquisitions. He is managing director at Purple Mountain Ventures, serving a dozen large and small international firms on product development, capital expansion and marketing. He previously served as Entrepreneur in Residence for the DOE/NNSA at Technology Ventures Corporation, was Software Evangelist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, as well as an advisor to Altira Group, the premier North American fund focused on energy-related ventures. Grizz has lead three DOE lab spin outs and participated as an active team member on a dozen others. Grizz has raised over $150 million for early stage firms, is the former chief marketing officer for Space Imaging and is also the founder and former CEO of LizardTech, one of the more successful Los Alamos spin-outs. Grizz holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in geospatial sciences from Texas A&M University.

Deborah A. Blackwell, APR

Deborah is a business development, public relations and marketing specialist. After leaving her initial career in television, she honed her 25+ years of experience by working in a wide array of industries. These include, but are not limited to computer software, real estate development, consumer and business travel, politics, and non-profits organizations. Her clients have been spread across the nation, the Caribbean and even into Russia. Most recently, as the CEO of a nonprofit that spans five states, she resurrected that organization from the brink of collapse and turned it into a thriving entity. Over the years, she also founded and operated two additional companies and helped many more to thrive. She has served on the boards (frequently as president) of countless nonprofit civic, cultural and industry-specific organizations and lobbied the U.S. Congress and state legislatures on their behalf. Her degrees in journalism-public relations and radio-TV were earned at the University of Central Florida.

Bob Libutti
VP Engineering

Bob has a BS in Engineering Physics from Lehigh University and a MBA and PhD in Business Administration and is a Computer Science graduate of IBM’s Systems Research Institute. He is the author of the book “IBM’s Systems Application Architecture.” After working in industry as an electrical engineer and as an officer in the US Army, Bob began a 32-year career with the IBM Corporation. He held various positions ranging from being the IBM Applied Science representative to NASA Langley during the Project Mercury space shots to IBM Group Director, holding executive marketing and executive product development positions in the US, Europe, and Japan.

Pete Peterson
Inventor, Chief Scientist

Among his many career accomplishments, Dr. Peterson holds six patents including those for his inventions of the Dye Laser and Alexandrite Laser, which earned IR 100 awards. In the 1990’s he served as science attaché at the American Embassy in London for environmental preservation and nonproliferation issues. He has served as a group leader at Los Alamos and he has held management positions at Eastman Kodak and Allied Chemical where he cofounded the laser induced chemistry program. He is also the co-founder of laser isotope separation program (AVLIS) at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, which continued for 26 years.

Cody Pearson
Product Manager

Cody joined Hyperion as the product manager in 2007. Mr. Pearson is an Associate at Purple Mountain Ventures and was previously an executive in the publishing industry. After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a BS and a BA in marketing in 2001, Cody moved to Denver to work as communications director for the Internet Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit business assistance organization. Cody’s work at the University of Nebraska focused on e-commerce and international business. While at university, Cody also helped develop digital rights management policy and the campus-wide awareness program for the faculty and students.

Forrest Rudin
Project Manager
Hyperion Power Generation
Forrest Rudin has a twenty year history in the energy and construction industries—from product inception, to development, to sales and marketing. He joined Hyperion in the Spring of 2007 as project manager for federal laboratory-based development and testing

Mr. Rudin regularly writes on energy and environmental issues, and assists Hyperion management with the day to day operations of the firm.
