Hyperion's Small, Transportable Nuclear Power Reactor Module to be presented at NEI International Uranium Fuel Seminar and Dow Jones' Alternative Energy Innovations Conference

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., October 14, 2008 Hyperion Power Generation's CEO John R. Grizz Deal will speak at two key energy conferences the week of October 20-24 in Denver and San Francisco. Hyperion is developing a small, transportable nuclear power reactor module utilizing a unique and inherently safe fuel and technology that was invented at Los Alamos National Laboratory by Dr. Otis Peterson, now the company's Chief Technology Officer. Known as the Hyperion Power Module (HPM), the reactor is self-regulating, permanently sealed and features no moving parts in its core to malfunction. Transportable by ship, rail or truck, each HPM offers 70 MW thermal energy or 27 MW of electricity when combined with a steam turbine and can be ganged for greater output. Early applications for the HPM in the U.S. and abroad include mining and industrial, and military installations. In addition, an important application abroad is for infrastructure in remote communities in developing nations where one HPM can provide enough power for 60,000 homes. Proliferation-resistant, the HPM meets all of the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership's (GNEP) stringent criteria for the safe and secure deployment of small "grid-appropriate" nuclear reactors for distributed power.

Deal will speak in Denver on Monday, October 20 at the Nuclear Energy Institute's International Uranium Fuel Seminar (http://www.nei.org/newsandevents/conferencesandmeetings/iufs/). He will talk during session 4 on "Closing the Fuel Cycle: Ramifications of the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership."

From Denver, Deal goes to the Dow Jones' Alternative Energy Innovations conference (http://alternativeenergy.dowjones.com) in San Francisco. He will give a presentation Tuesday, October 21st, at 11AM on the Hyperion Power Module during the presentations of companies in the U.S. that the conference organizers have deemed the most promising energy start-ups.

The Hyperion Power Module intellectual property portfolio has been licensed to Hyperion Power Generation for commercialization under the laboratory's technology transfer program. The company has already received commitments for a dozen of its HPMs, priced at around $25 million each, for various locations. Three factories spread across the globe are planned by the company to produce and ship the approximately 4,000 units of the first design.
